(Distant) Family Visit

I spent the weekend in the small town of Grasberg, which is about 20 minutes outside of Bremen, Germany. It is where the family of my grandfather's cousin lives. In about 1928, a young couple immigrated to the United States. The husband, Diedrich Meyer went first and two years later his wife, Meta, followed with their two daughters. In the United States, my grandfather and his brother were born. This was the third time I had been to visit them, and like always it was a really nice time. We spent a lot of time sitting outside, drinking some beers and making funny little trees on scratch paper of the family history. I stayed with Marion and her family, who is my grandfather's cousin's daughter. Marion's mother found a large envelope full of letters and pictures, one of which possibly reveals a brother of my grandpa that supposedly died in Germany. There we had a photo of "Her Son Richard and Family" which well, no one knows anything about.

The house where my great-grandmother was born. Completely destroyed in the second world war it was rebuilt.

The house where my great-grandfather was born, across the street from the house above.

The oldest living member of the family in Germany, my grandfather's great uncle.
