Happy Cows & Neutrality

Just got back from a quick trip to Zurich, Switzerland today. I had been there before a couple of years ago, but I was younger and I don't think I appreciated it as much as I did this time around. Kim, Andy, Kate and I took off Saturday morning (of course, I was hungover) and took the 90 minute trek to the land of happy cows and neutrality. Spent most of the day Saturday walking around, taking pictures and loosing ourselves in the crowd. Stopped by a flea market on the lake, and became sad when I knew that it was practically impossible to take the white lamp from 1975 around with me for the rest of the day and also reminded myself countless times that books were heavy. The used books were awesome - found a book from the 1800's that was about 4 inches thick and outlined how to be a "good housewife" and covered the broadest range of subjects I've ever seen in any home economic book. I stood and stared at it, aruguing with myself for about 20 minutes on whether or not to buy it.

While walking around, I got a picture of this little girl staring at the musicians. Her little sister was being rowdy and dancing...but this one just stood there and stared. I remember doing the same thing when I was little...

Saturday night consisted of going out (into the rain) and grabbing some drinks, then we all went back to our hotel and watched a lot of television, talked and I sat on the window and watched the rain. This hotel was in the industry quarter of Zurich, set back on "Technostrasse". Overall a good deal for three people - except that our bathroom and shower were in seperate rooms that looked like they were modeled after some sort of pod time machine craft. I was happy to have all that hot water though, I was able to shampoo AND condition my hair! That is not possible where I'm staying in Germany.

Me on Lake Zurich

We woke up this morning and went for lunch, it was raining still today when we left the . I woke up with the most massive craving for a big american breakfast - and luckily at this restaurant I was able to get roasted potatos with swiss cheese, huge bacon chunks with eggs on top PLUS orange juice. I was extremely happy to get that this morning, and after eating that - the rain didn't bother me too much.

In other notes, I'm back in Radolfzell. Starting on my 5th week here and I can honestly say that I'm tired. My whole body is sore all the time, not always feeling super good. It's so bad that I tempted at times to check myself into a really nice hotel for a night, get a good nights sleep and take a decent shower. It's hard to describe what it feels like to be punched a couple times every da y - but that is the only way I can describe it.
